PROGRAMS
People want to do business with people they know. At NWMBA, our leadership team has amassed over 150 years of collective business acumen and trusted relationships with industry leaders, influencers, and decision makers in government, corporate, and community. We are dedicated to opening doors for you.
Washington ranks #1 in economy activity in the United States. 630,000 small businesses operate in Washington state (99.5% of the total number of businesses). 197,000 are minority-owned businesses. These businesses employ over 1.4 million employees (over 50% of the employees). Small businesses account for over 36,900 net new jobs. The voices of the MBE construction services community deserve to be heard loud and clear. Effective public policy initiatives remove barriers to success, and they support an equitable environment. So NWMBA is taking a ‘seat at the table’ in Olympia and we invite you to join us in delivering positive changes related to the state’s business climate, quality of life issues and equal rights.
Like people, there are no two businesses that are exactly alike. With that in mind NWMBA’s approach to providing technical assistance and training that truly ‘moves the dial’ for your business comes from our collective experience of getting to the core issues that may be holding back your success. Our leadership, partners, trainers, and technical providers have over three centuries of experience in overcoming challenges, winning competitively bid procurement opportunities and knowing how to manage sustainable growth as you win new contracts and create new jobs.
Learning can come in many forms. NWMBA’s approach is to mix collaborative and panel discussions, case studies and lessons learned, shared experiences, coaching and mentoring, and workshops so we learn how to be and do better. Our leadership, partners, trainers, and technical providers capture these teaching moments in video so you can view and review at your convenience and pace.
OUR HISTORY
Established in 2022, five friends and colleagues with a common vision answered the requests of minority business enterprises to build an inclusive and safe place where businesses could come together and support each other in a way not currently available. Out of this vision, the Northwest Minority Builders Alliance (NWMBA) was born.
NWMBA is a locally-controlled Washington State based nonprofit business league organization serving the Pacific Northwest.
We are a business league providing minority, women, and veteran business enterprises:
1) connections with professional services, construction, real estate, and other related industry leaders, influencers, and decision makers;
2) advocacy through effective public policy initiatives that remove barriers to success and level the playing field; and
3) technical assistance and professional training
to prosper and strengthen their communities at large.
What makes us different is:
- we embrace minority, women, and veteran business enterprises (M/W/DBE);
- our extensive and cutting edge experience and expertise in all aspects of public works and public/private development, including but not limited to public policy and programs, design and construction, and the workforce pipeline;
- our M/W/VBE self-determination as locally run and managed;
- we use outcomes rather than output measures; and
- our core belief is no one gets left behind.

100 IN 100 DAYS CAMPAIGN!
100 in 100 Days - a historic business community outreach and engagement campaign across the Pacific Northwest, and beyond, to identify, engage and empower 100 minority, women, and veteran-owned businesses (M/W/VBEs) engaged in architecture, construction, engineering, real estate, and related industries in the next 100 days, starting March 1, 2023!
M/W/VBEs continue hitting roadblocks when competing for contracts in both the public and private sectors. In concert with public and private entities, we intend to help overcome these challenges and the resulting under-representation one contractor, one consultant, one industry professional at a time!
If you are a Minority, Woman, and/or Veteran Business Enterprise and would like to be a part of our movement, we encourage you to sign up to become a NWMBA Member. To celebrate 100 in 100 Days, the first 100 M/W/VBEs to register will receive a first year membership dues discount of $100.00 for 2023. Those M/W/VBEs who apply for membership by June 8, 2023, will also be recognized as Founding Members.
